Data We Collect

MikeCheck processes citations, uploaded files, extracted brief text, and request metadata to provide analysis and operate the service. Background-job results may include extracted brief text and are retained for the deployment's configured job-retention period; the software default is 24 hours. Self-hosted operators can change retention and storage settings.

External Processing

Citation queries and source-retrieval requests may be sent to CourtListener, the legal-data service operated by the Free Law Project that the current deployment retrieves from. When precedent suggestions are enabled for a brief, short topic phrases extracted from the brief are also sent to that service as search queries. Full brief text may be sent to hosted semantic-search services (currently the Free Law Project's Inception embedding service and CourtListener semantic search) only when that feature is enabled and the upload request includes explicit consent for third-party processing. Source availability and access terms are controlled by those services.

Analytics and Logs

Product analytics is configurable and disabled by default in the software. When enabled, the current integration sends operational event data to the configured analytics service and is designed not to include names, email addresses, uploaded text, or citation-query text. Operational logs and their retention depend on deployment configuration. MikeCheck has no advertising integration and does not use uploaded legal text for advertising.
